Many coaches experience their greatest challenge in this crucial area.

In fact many good business coaches get frustrated and eventually pursue alternate careers because they have difficulty building up their client base.

 

The reality is that there is a significant amount of business owners out there that can benefit from effective business coaching. How do we connect the coaches and the businesspeople?

 

The problem is that business owners don't know how to go about "buying" a business coach.

 

It's not something that they look for every day.

They also don't fully realize just how effective a business coach can be at helping them achieve the results they want.

 

At ROCK SOLID we look at objections as symptoms not problems.

The problem is resistance. You only get objections when there is resistance.

When you deliver benefits that are meaningful, like business coaches do, and there is no resistance then a deal is likely. It just makes sense to take this approach.

 

Marketing is also a contact sport.

Many coaches don't like the rejection that inevitably comes along with sales and marketing. You just can't win them all and we understand that.

The ART of Business Process

The real key here is how the process increases the confidence and effectiveness of coaches. The process is easy to use and apply. It also makes it straightforward for coaches to help each other. Business owners “get it” and see the value.

 

It follows a basic proven 4 step process.

#1 – Accurately assess the current reality

#2 – Gain clarity regarding the preferred results & believe you can get there.

#3 – Brainstorm to develop options that have the potential to achieve the results

#4 – Commit to taking the necessary actions

 

We’ve wrapped it into the metaphor/acronym ART of Business because small businesses are often reflections of the owner’s dreams. Developing a business is not a purely rational process. Coaches need to recognize that it’s the client’s business and it has to look and feel right to them. Business coaching is more of an art than a science, but there are several principles that consistently deliver results.

 

Just to underscore the point. ROCK SOLID has clients who look exactly the same from the street, but are quite a bit different in "personality".

It rates a business against a ROCK SOLID standard.

There is more to the picture than that though.

We start with the assumption that the current reality developed in response to pressures, problems and opportunities that the organization previously faced. It can be difficult for the people involved to see the existing patterns and default behaviours.

The organization is the way it is because of the personalities involved and history that they've had together. Sometimes we even find that parts of the culture and habits of an organization were formed by people who left long ago.

What worked yesterday is often part of today's problems.

This is difficult for the participants to see. It can also be difficult for the coach to see.

Good assessments take time.

The business should be looked at from a variety of perspectives.

We've developed the concept of a business as a "Hub of Expectations" involving the owner, customers, clients (Yes they are different from customers), employees, suppliers, the business itself and the community it operates in.

Interestingly enough the ART of Business Process doesn't need to "complete" the assessment before moving on to the next step. Many valuable discoveries will be made as the process repeats itself.

 

Realize what the desired results are and realize the full scope of options that have to achieve those results.

 

 

Often business owners have lost sight of their original vision or it’s changed with time and they haven’t redefined their preferred results. Sometimes they’ve come to accept that their dream is gone and all that’s left is the day to day grind.

 

Businesspeople need the assistance of coaches to cast their eyes forward and create a compelling vision for the future. Sometimes they don't even realize what their business is capable of delivering for them. Many businesses turn their owners into "prisoners".

 

Realizing the available options for achieving the results can be the most difficult part of the process. We combine a proven brainstorming process with our own business acumen and the experience gained from coaching many clients in a variety of industries.

 

The ROCK SOLID™ Project is designed to collect, share and improve the options available to coaches as they work with clients to address the variety of challenges they face while they build their businesses.

 

The more coaches that get involved and the more clients we serve, the more powerful the program becomes.

 

 

TRaction = Towards Results action

 

 

At the core of our process are effective TRaction Plans created with the understanding that building a business is a somewhat experimental process. The current TRaction Plan consists of actions selected from the list generated in the realizing the available options section above.

 

Having a plan and working the plan while holding open the possibility making midcourse corrections consistently yields the best results. That is why we re-engage the ART of Business Process every 3 months. Each new cycle reveals new insights and new potential options.

 

 

We are very upfront about not taking a solution first approach.

Many new coaches feel the need to arrive with solutions in hand or arrive at them quickly. Working with our process provides the time and perspective that allows great coaching to emerge.

The interesting thing about working with the process is that when a client is not achieving results it is fairly easy to diagnose which step in the process is the problem.

 

It also makes it easy for one coach to help another "get their mind around" a client. If a client is not getting results because they are not holding up their end of the bargain it can be difficult for a solo coach to hold them accountable. All too often good coaches lose their confidence over this issue. Business Coaching without a process and peers can be difficult.

There are over 70 modules organized into 9 categories. ROCK SOLID is another metaphor/acronym that business owners get. Everyone wants to own a rock solid business.

The interactive on-line web platform

 

Makes it easy to handle multiple clients and deliver effective coaching session each and every time. It also has logins for both the coach and their clients. The process and program are loaded onto the platform.

 

It is an interactive learning locker that contains all of the modules in the program and also includes a Meeting Manger section and a section that is used for setting Quarterly TRaction Plans.

 

The unique Question History Report function allows coaches to track the progress of their clients and clearly demonstrate the value they are delivering.

 

The web platform is also very useful for “apprenticing” new business coaches. It makes it easy for a mentor to assess progress and give great advice. New coaches are not left on their own out in the field after a few days of training.
